Hoodies have a long history which dates back to the Middle ages when Catholic Monks wore a hooded cowl.

It was not until the 1970s that hoodies became a fashion garment as the main apparel in Hip Hop culture, however the appeal was tainted as the hood was used to conceal criminals identities.

The release of Rocky film in 1976 gave the hoodie iconic status and from that point it started to appear in fashion collections as top fashion designers could see its global appeal.

In recent years the hoodie has appealed to the younger generation as an alternative fashion item. Skaters, surfers, emos, and goths all wear hoodies by their favourite brands, and you can even buy hoodies by your favourite rock or pop artist.

In California,  Universities have hoodies with their logos on them which inspired many urban street brands to adopt hoodies as an essential item of clothing.

A hoodie is a primarily a thick sweatshirt with a hood. The design includes large frontal pockets, a hood, and usually a drawstring to adjust the hood opening. Hoodies also can come with zips which are normally are called Zip Thrus.
